Municipal authorities failed to elect a new mayor in Ouanda-Djallé during the week of 6 October 2026. The electoral process for the town, situated in the Vakaga region, stalled after a portion of the municipal councilors initiated a boycott of the proceedings. This organized refusal to participate prevented the council from reaching the necessary quorum to move forward with the appointment. Officials have not yet announced a rescheduled date for the vote.

The failure of the election, which was scheduled to take place within the Vakaga region, has left the municipal leadership position vacant. Because the electoral process requires a specific number of councilors to be present to validate the proceedings, the absence of the boycotting members rendered the assembly unable to conduct the formal vote. The town of Ouanda-Djallé remains without a newly appointed mayor as a direct result of this impasse. The administrative machinery of the municipality relies on these council sessions to maintain local governance, and the current deadlock has halted these essential operations.

Official Response to Boycott

Thierry Évariste Binguinendji serves as the governor of the Fertit region. He holds administrative oversight for the territory encompassing the site of the stalled municipal proceedings. As the governor of the Fertit region, Thierry Évariste Binguinendji maintains responsibility for monitoring the stability of municipal governance within his jurisdiction.

Governor Thierry Évariste Binguinendji publicly criticized the boycott on 12 October 2026. He called for the elected officials to show responsibility regarding their duties to the local constituency. The governor stated that the refusal of councilors to attend the scheduled vote undermined the administrative functions of the town. He requested that all municipal representatives return to the assembly to ensure the appointment process proceeds according to established protocols.

The official statement issued by Governor Thierry Évariste Binguinendji emphasizes the necessity of maintaining the integrity of the municipal appointment process. By failing to attend the assembly, the boycotting councilors have effectively prevented the town of Ouanda-Djallé from fulfilling its mandate to elect a mayor. The governor’s intervention serves as a formal demand for the councilors to resume their legislative duties.

According to the administrative protocols of the region, the election of a mayor is a fundamental requirement for the town to operate under its full capacity. The lack of a quorum, caused by the actions of the participating councilors, has created a significant administrative hurdle. Governor Thierry Évariste Binguinendji has indicated that the current situation requires an immediate resolution to prevent further delays in the town’s governance. The municipal council remains under pressure to reconcile its internal disagreements to allow the mayoral appointment to move forward. As of 12 October 2026, there has been no indication from the councilors involved in the boycott that they intend to return to the assembly or participate in a future vote. The situation in Ouanda-Djallé continues to be monitored by the office of the governor, as the town awaits further instructions regarding the resumption of the municipal election process.
